Trail mix recipes are abundant. Basically, anything which holds up well in a ziploc bag can be used. I always enjoy seeing different combinations to get new ideas. This Sunflower Seed Trail Mix recipe is for the sunflower seed enthusiasts.

If you are using the Cub Scout Planting Seeds of Kindness program theme, mix up some of this “seed based” trail mix as a pack or den activity.

I like to start with GORP (Good Ole Raisins and Peanuts) and add from there.

I like to talk about why trail mix has these two things (or similar ingredients) so you are getting your sugary carbs to provide quick energy and your complex carbs to provide enegry later.

It is fun to give the kids a small ziploc bag and let them combine their own ingredients from a variety of choices. And then take a hike!
