Help for Boy Scout Early Rank Requirements Boy Scouts working on their Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class ranks might want to check out the early rank requirements videos from the BSA. Troop Instructors will also find these videos helpful when preparing to teach younger scouts a skill. These videos give step by step instructions for all of the requirements for these three ranks.
Maps, Compasses, and Declination Scouts will be interested to learn that the north indicated by their compasses is not really true north. Instead it points to the magnetic north pole, which is not fixed. The difference between true north and magnetic north is called declination.
Powdered Sports Drink Recipe Sports drinks like Gatorade or Power Aid are designed to replenish the water and salt your body loses when you are active or exercising. You can mix up your own powdered mix to accomplish this for a fraction of the cost of purchasing these drinks by the bottle.
60 Hikes Within 60 Miles Book Series We are coming up on some prime hiking season. In the spring the temperatures are mild and it isn't buggy yet. So I am reviewing my favorite hiking book - 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles. Hopefully there is one available in your area.
BSA Methods - The Outdoors One of the methods for Boy Scouts is “the outdoors”. Being outdoors presents Boy Scouts with challenges and adventures. Boys enjoy the independence of getting away from home and taking care of themselves.
Review - Mina Sauk Falls Trail at Taum Sauk State Park Our troop recently camped at Johnson Shut-Ins State Park in southern Missouri. While we were there, we took a day trip to Taum Sauk Mountain State Park and hiked the Mina Sauk Falls Trail.
Second Class Rank Requirements for Boy Scouts Second Class is the second rank a Boy Scout can earn. He earns it after Tenderfoot. The Second Class rank requirements for Boy Scouts continue to teach the youth to the skills he needs to advance in Boy Scouting.
Camp Programs for First Year Boy Scouts Summer camp is usually the highlight of the Scouting year. It can be particularly exciting for first year Boy Scouts. It can also be a little intimidating. A program designed specifically for new Scouts will help them adjust to camp life.
Personal Measurement Log for Orienteering When you go on an orienteering course, you need to have some ways to measure things. Some of the methods used require you to have something of known length for comparison. A personal measurement log will help you with this.
