Public Service Troop Program Feature

One of the aims of Scouting is to develop young men into participating citizens. A participating citizen does more than what is expected of a good citizen, such as voting and obeying the law. He takes an active role in the community.
This program feature is designed to introduce Scouts to some of the people who help your community function. No matter how large or small your community is, there are many participating citizens Scouts can get to know.
The big event might be a historic tour, a community Good Turn, or a combination of the two.
Find the complete plans for the Public Service Troop Program Feature on the BSA website.

Public Service Troop Program Feature for Boy Scouts The focus in this program feature is citizenship and service. Younger Boy Scouts can work on flag etiquette, flag ceremonies, and their rights and duties as US Citizens. Older Scouts could work on the Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, and Citizenship in the World merit badges.
Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge for Boy Scouts Working on the Citizenship in the Community merit badge helps Boy Scouts understand their role in their local community. The Citizenship in the Community merit badge is required for the rank of Eagle Scout.
Troop Program Features - Program Planning The Scoutmaster, Senior Patrol Leader, and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader work together to develop long term plans for a Boy Scout troop. One thing which can help with this is the BSA troop program features.

Shoot The Gap Game This game is suggested as an interpatrol activity for one of the meeting plans in the Public Service troop program feature. This game would also work as a team building game or ice breaker, since the participants must know the names of the other players. So I think this could also be worked into a Crew program.
Service Project Ideas for Boy Scouts Boy Scouts are required to participate service projects for Second Class, Star, and Life. Our troop encourages all Scouts to participate in service projects whether they need the hours or not.
Scoutmaster Minute - Cheerful Service With Order of the Arrow elections approaching in the coming months, I though I'd share this Scoutmaster minute about cheerful service. It will help the troop remember what they should be basing their votes on and it should help current OA members remember the ideals they should be trying to live up to.
Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badge for Boy Scouts LC and DS recently completed the Citizenship in the Nation merit badge. They seemed to enjoy this one more than some of the other Eagle required badges. We had taken a trip to Washington DC in the past year, so they had a chance to use some of the places we visited there to help fulfill the requirements.
