Space Cub Scout Theme

Learning about space is fun for the young and old alike. Star gazing on a clear night is always a fun activity for Cub Scouts. Or learn about astronauts and the sense of adventure which they must have to venture into the unknown. A space theme will add some spark to your den or pack program.
A few ideas for this theme are listed below, and more will gradually be added. Organize a pack meeting or den meeting around them. Or plan an overall theme for your Cub Scout year and add an element or two from the theme into your program each month.

Astronaut Pudding Recipe This makes a great snack for any space themed meeting. We used it when ZM's den worked on Bear Elective 1 - Space. It can be a little messy, so we went outside.
Astronomy Terms Scramble Puzzle This puzzle is to help your Cub Scouts meet requirement 3 for the belt loop:
Explain the following terms: planet, star, solar system, galaxy, the Milky Way, blackhole, red giant, white dwarf, comet, meteor, moon, asteroid, star map, and universe.
Pin Hole Planetariums Make pinhole planetariums to fulfill Cub Scout Bear Elective 1b. This project involves hammers, nails, and flashlights, so it should be a hit with the Cub Scouts. Includes patterns for the pinholes.
Finding the Big Dipper, the North Star, and the Little Dipper One of the requirements for Bear Elective 1: Space is to locate the North Star and two constellations in the night sky. This printable aid will help find it.
Dock Your Flying Saucer Game The idea of this game is to put the flying saucer (a Frisbee) in its space dock (a box). This is a good game for indoors or out.
Astronomy Pin for Cub Scouts If you are planning some activities for your pack or den for this spring, consider an evening of stargazing. While you are out studying the night sky, your Cub Scouts can work on the requirements for the Astronomy Pin from the Cub Scout Academics and Sports Program.
Bear Den Meeting Plan – Space This Bear Cub Scout den meeting plan focuses on Bear Elective 1: Space. It includes a couple of crafts, a space themed snack, and a take home activity.
Astronomy Belt Loop for Cub Scouts In honor of Star Wars Day (May the Fourth be with you!), today my focus is on the Cub Scout Academics and Sports Program Astronomy Belt Loop. Help your Scouts reach for the stars by encouraging them to work on this belt loop.
Dad's Favorite Star Cookies Recipe Here is another Christmas cookie. These are not very sweet. ZM and LC like to sprinkle these with colored sugar before we bake them.
