Craftsman Activity Badge
The Craftsman activity badge is all about building useful projects. Find helps for this badge here.Craftsman Requirements
Do these:- Explain how to safely handle the tools that you will use for this activity badge safely.
- With adult supervision and using hand tools, construct two different wooden objects you and your Webelos den leader agree on, such as the items listed below. Use a coping saw or jigsaw for these projects. Put them together with glue, nails, or screws. Paint or stain them. (Book rack, Napkin holder, Shelf, Animal cutouts, Bulletin board, Garden tool rack, Weather vane, Lid holder, Tie rack, Mailbox, Letter holder, Birdhouse, Notepad holder, Desk nameplate, Toolbox, Letter, Bill. and Pencil holder, Towel rack, Bread box, Recipe holder, Key rack, Lamp stand, Measuring cup rack, Kitchen knife rack, Measuring spoon rack, Kitchen utensil rack)
- Make a display stand, or box to be used to display a model or an award. Or make a frame for a photo or painting. Use suitable material.
- Make four useful items using materials other than wood that you and your Webelos den leader agree on, such as clay, plastic, leather, metal, paper, rubber, or rope. These should be challenging items and must involve several operations.

More Pack Meeting Ideas for February – Resourcefulness I posted a few ideas last year, but here are some more ideas for incorporating resourcefulness into your Cub Scout program.
Twig Picture Frame Craft Here is a simple frame craft to fulfill Webelos Craftsman activity badge requirement 3. You can also do this project with younger Cub Scouts if you do the gluing for them.
Duct Tape Wallet Craftsman Project I came across this idea and thought they would enjoy it. After all, what Scout doesn't enjoy using duct tape?
Book Review: Getting Started in Pinewood Derby I recently received a copy of Getting Started in Pinewood Derby by Troy Thorne. This colorful workbook goes through all of the steps involved in building a car. My favorite thing about the book is that it is directed at Cub Scouts - who should be doing most of the work on their cars.
Gourd Birdhouse Use dried gourds to make a birdhouse. If you didn't grow any yourself, you can probably find some in your area at a farmer's market or even a craft shop.
Review – Washington State Park Our Boy Scout troop recently had a family campout at Washington State Park. I recommend this campground. There was definitely plenty to do and see there and we had a great time. I'm sure we'll be going back.
June Cub Scout Theme - Head West Young Man (Perseverance) Word on the street is that BSA will release a June Cub Scout theme called "Head West Young Man" for the June core value of Perseverance.
Neckerchief Slide Holder Making and collecting neckerchief slides is a Scouting tradition. A neckerchief slide holder will help keep them organized. This project can be used to fulfill one of the Webelos Craftsman activity badge requirements.
Leather Bookmark Project This project is suitable for Webelos working on their Craftsman activity badge. It is simple enough for those not familiar with leatherwork, but it includes the basics of cutting, punching, and stamping.
Wolf Neckerchief Slide Craft Homemade neckerchief slides are a Scouting tradition. This slide is a fun way to get Cub Scouts involved in this tradition.
Hiking Stick Craftsman Project Cub Scouts love to get their pocketknives out and strip bark from fallen sticks. Why not make it into a project?
Tin Can Lanterns Tin can lanterns make a very versatile craft project for Cub Scouts. You can make the holes in any pattern you like - a star for Christmas, a ghost for Halloween, a heart for Valentine's day. Webelos and Bears can probably do this project themselves with some adult supervision. Younger scouts will need more direct help from the adults.
Product Review – Cobrabraid 550 Paracord Bracelets I recently received some Cobrabraid 550 samples to review. The bracelets I received were made of study paracord.
Pinewood Derby and Webelos Craftsman Our Pinewood Derby is next weekend and my den are putting the finishing touches on their cars (hopefully). I've told them they can count their cars as a Craftsman project if they did a significant amount of work on the cars themselves.
Duct Tape Crafts: Duct Tape Napkin Rings Scouts can never do too many duct tape crafts! I found these very cute duct tape napkin rings and the instructions.
Tic Tac Toe Game Project I thought this would make a good Craftsman project for my Webelos. We'll probably try this in December. They could make these and then give them to someone as a Christmas present.
