Readyman Activity Badge
Webelos learn how to be prepared for an emergency while working on the Readyman activity badge. Find helps for this badge here.Readyman Requirements
Do all of these:-
With your parent, guardian, or Webelos den leader, complete the Courage Character Connection.
- Know: Define the importance of each courage step: Be strong; Be calm; Be clear; Be careful. Explain how memorizing the courage steps helps you to be ready.
- Commit: Explain why it is hard to follow the courage steps in an emergency. Tell when you can use the courage steps in other situations (such as standing up to a bully, avoiding fights, being fair, not stealing or cheating when tempted, etc.)
- Practice: Act out one of the requirements using these courage steps: Be strong; Be calm; Be clear; Be careful.
- Explain what first aid is. Tell what you should do after an accident.
- Explain how you can get help quickly if there is an emergency in your home. Make a "help list" of people or agencies that can help you if you need it. Post it near a phone or another place with easy access.
- Demonstrate the Heimlich maneuver and tell when it is used.
-
Show what to do for these "hurry cases":
- Serious bleeding
- Stopped breathing
- Internal poisoning
- Heart attack
- Show how to treat shock.
-
Show first aid for the following:
- Cuts and scratches
- Burns and scalds
- Choking
- Blisters on the hand and foot
- Tick bites
- Bites and stings of insects other than ticks
- Poisonous snakebite
- Nosebleed
- Frostbite
- Sunburn
- Tell what steps must be taken for a safe swim with your Webelos den, pack, family, or other group. Explain the reasons for the buddy system.
- Explain six safety rules you should follow when "driving" a bicycle.
- Explain the importance of wearing safety equipment when participating in sports activities (skating, skateboarding, etc.)
- Make a home fire escape plan for your family.
- Explain how to use each item in a first aid kit.
- Tell where accidents are most likely to happen inside and around your home.
- Explain six safety rules you should remember when riding in a car.
- Attend a first aid demonstration at a Boy Scout troop meeting, a Red Cross center, or other community event or place.

Bike Rodeo Our pack might be doing a bike rodeo this year. I have visited these before, but we have never put one on ourselves. So I am researching possible "stations" which the kids can rotate through for the activity.
First Aid for Tick Bites Scouts like to get outdoors, but in many areas that brings the danger of tick bites. While most tick bites won't cause more than minor irritation, if treated incorrectly complications can occur.
Emergency Phone Number List Emergency preparedness is part of every level of Scouting program. For younger Scouts, that primarily means knowing how to get help.
Fake Wounds for First Aid Demonstrations If your Webelos or Boy Scouts are working on first aid requirements, you can add in some fun by making a fake wound on a "victim" or two.
First Aid Demonstration for Cuts When you are doing first aid instruction, it is best to demonstrate it as much as possible. Here is a way they showed us at a Pow Wow a few years ago. I did this with my previous Webelos den and they really enjoyed it.

911 Song This silly song is a favorite with my boys. Yes, it involves crashing into trees, ambulance rides, blood, and the word cops. But it seems to be the type of song boys enjoy singing. Don't ask me why.
Ideas for May Pack Meeting - Health and Fitness The core value for Cub Scouts for the month of May is Health and Fitness. According to the program helps health and fitness is:
Being personally committed to keeping our minds and bodies cleanand fit.Cub Scouts will learn that it is important and easy to eat a healthy diet and how a fitnessprogram can be part of their daily routine.
Cycling Theme I am featuring a Bikes theme this month. This theme has lots of useful information for Cub Scouts, but much of it applies to Boy Scouts and Venturers also. Boy Scouts can use the aids you will see this month with the Cycling merit badge. And Venturers will find this information useful for the Cycling/Mountain Biking elective for the Ranger Award.
Emergency Preparedness BSA - Cub Scout Requirements This award is all about emergency preparedness. Today I am sharing the Cub Scout requirements. This might make a nice theme for a pack event. There are different requirements for Boy Scouts, Venturers, and Scouters.
