- Read Pascal's Law. Tell about some inventions that use Pascal's law.
- Read Newton's first law of motion. Show in three different ways how inertia works.
- While you are a Webelos Scout, earn the Cub Scout Academics belt loop for Science.
- Show the effects of atmospheric pressure.
- Show the effects of air pressure.
- Show the effects of water pressure. This may be combined with atmospheric pressure or with air pressure.
- With adult supervision, build and launch a model rocket. (NOTE: You must be at least 10 years old to work with a model rocket kit sold in stores.) Describe how Newton's third law of motion explains how the rocket is propelled into the sky.
- Explain what causes fog. Show how this works.
- Explain how crystals are formed. Make some.
- Explain how you use your center of gravity to keep your balance. Show three different balancing tricks.
- Show in three different ways how your eyes work together, and show what is meant by an optical illusion.

Cubmaster Minute – Science and Perseverance The Cub Scout core value for the month of June is perseverance. Here is a brief Cubmaster minute to help Cub Scout understand why perseverance is important.
Webelos Den Meeting Plan – Scientist Part 1 The Scientist activity badge for Webelos can be a little intimidating at first, but as long as you are prepared and keep the activities simple it is manageable. This den meeting plan covers half of the requirements. An separate article (to be posted tomorrow) describes a den meeting plan to complete the badge.
Weather Belt Loop for Cub Scouts Get your Cub Scouts outside to work on their Weather Belt Loop. If you don't have time to do this at a meeting, send a copy of the requirements home with your scouts.
A Simple Explanation of the Scientific Method If you don't have a background in science, helping your Cub Scout out with this might seem a little intimidating. But the scientific method is really very basic and only involves a few simple concepts.
Air Pressure Demonstration This demonstration can be used to fulfill Webelos Scientist activity badge requirement 6: Show the effects of air pressure. It would also be a fun way to end a pack meeting or den meeting with a science theme
Webelos Den Meeting Plan – Scientist Part 2 This meeting plan completes the requirements for the Webelos Scientist activity badge which were started in Webelos Den Meeting Plan - Scientist Part 1. This den meeting should be held about two weeks after the first meeting.
Printable Explanation of the Water Cycle With all of the rain we've been having lately, this seems like a good time to post this aid to help explain the water cycle. I made this aid to help my Webelos when they were working on the Weather belt loop as a requirement for the Scientist activity badge. The material also fits in with the Weather merit badge.
Bernoulli’s Principle Demonstration Use this demonstration for Webelos Scientist activity badge requirement 1: Read Bernoulli’s principle. Show how it works. It could also be done in conjuction with the Science Belt Loop and Pin from the Cub Scout Academics and Sports program.
Astronomy Belt Loop for Cub Scouts In honor of Star Wars Day (May the Fourth be with you!), today my focus is on the Cub Scout Academics and Sports Program Astronomy Belt Loop. Help your Scouts reach for the stars by encouraging them to work on this belt loop.
Ziploc Bag vs Pencil Experiment This simple experiment to demonstrate the scientific method is always a hit with the scouts. The results are not usually what they expect. Use this to fulfill requirement 2 for the Cub Scouts Academics and Sports Program Science Belt Loop.
Science Belt Loop for Cub Scouts I always enjoy seeing kids faces light up when they realize how fun hands on science can be. Letting them explore the way the world works and try to understand why something happens is always exciting. If you want to spark an interest in science in your Cub Scouts, have them look at the Science belt loop from the Cub Scout Academics and Sports Program.
How to Grow a Sugar Crystal Webelos must learn about crystals to fulfill requirement 10 for the Webelos Scientist activity badge. I did this activity with DS, LC, and ZM when they were working on this badge. They really enjoyed it. When making the crystals, make sure they keep adding sugar until it really won't dissolve anymore and it will be successful.
Water Cycle Demonstration This project will demonstrate the water cycle to scouts. This demonstration can be used with requirement 1 for the Weather belt loop for Cub Scouts or with requirement 6 for the Weather merit badge for Boy Scouts.
